Smuggler's Trail (Schmugglersteig) - Nature Trail - Schattwald. Smuggler Mountain Trail is a 14 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Aspen, Colorado that features a lake and is rated as difficult. Kind of steep & was challenging. A unique adventure for young and old. Directions from Aspen: Travelling east on Main Street in Aspen, turn left (north) onto Mill Street. More like walking up a steep dirt road for most of the way. Follow Gibson 1/8 mile to a Y intersection and bear left onto South Avenue. Use 1 or all 4 drop downs to customize your search for the right trail. The smugglers' trail from Wannenjoch to Iseler - great fun for the whole family! The path is partly gravelled and partly grazed with grass. The hiking bus between Oberjoch and Schattwald runs every hour.
