Took me nearly 40 minutes up and surprisingly not that much less on the way down. Was a really good challenge with the 20 switch backs. Beautiful!

Legend has it that Lance Armstrong reaches the “summit” of Ute in 17 minutes. Love this trail, is just right for me. A grotto is a geological term for a cave or cavern. Great way to start our stay here! And you'll keep going up. Ute is a fabulously steep trail on the southeast side of Aspen.

The elevation really starts to kick you in the end, though physically my legs and body still felt fine.Watch out for my review for Aspen Mountain if you are interested in climbing to the top of the mountain! I loved the steepness, the trees and the view of course.This is one of my favorites hiking trails in Aspen area, if you still have energy to go up higher you can continue to hike the Aspen mountain from here then download by gondola (close at 4pm).The only thing that is not convenient for this trail is the parking, very limited. The trail is a steady uphill that goes to Ute Rock and continues to the top of Aspen Mountain. If you're trying to get a good photo, head up here for the sunset over Aspen since you'll be facing west.
