In general, the arena was home to the Seattle Totems from 1962–74, the Seattle Breakers/Thunderbirds as a secondary arena from the team's inception (usually playing a third to half their regular season games and most postseason games during Seattle Supersonics playoff runs) and as the franchise's full-time home venue during the 1994-95 season while the Seattle Center Coliseum was undergoing renovations, the Seattle SeaDogs in 1995, and the ABL's Seattle Reign from 1996–98, and was a temporary venue for Seattle Opera from 2000-03 before sitting dormant. The Civic Auditorium (later the Opera House, now McCaw Hall), the ice arena (later Mercer Arena), and the Civic Field (rebuilt in 1946 as the High School Memorial Stadium), all built in 1927 had been placed there based on that plan, as was an armory (the Food Circus during the fair, later Center House).
